Recently, we took part in the Spring Biodynamic Preparations Gathering organised by Terra Dinàmica, a day dedicated to sharing knowledge and experiences with fellow winegroweers committed to a more mindful and respecful way of working the land. At Loxarel, we have embraced organic and biodynamic viticulture for many years, convinced the the best way to craft exceptional wines is to care for the vineyard as a living organisme, in balance with its environment and the cosmos.
Inspired by the teachings of Rudolf Steiner, biodynamic farming goes a step beyond organic agriculture. It views the soil, plants, animals and people as parts of a single living system, working in harmony with the rhythms of nature, the seasons, the cosmos and the lunar cycles. Among its best-known practices is the renowned Preparation 500, made from cow manure matured inside cow horns buried throughout the winter. Far from being a mere curiosity, these preparations help revitalise the soil, stimulate microbial life and naturally enhance the vitality of the vineyard.
At Loxarel, this philosophy is part of our everyday work and is reflected in every decision we make in the vineyard. We belive that only by respecting the land can we authentically express the landscape of the Penedès in every one of our wines and sparkling wines.
