The Loxarel winery was born from the vocation and innovative spirit of Josep Mitjans, who, at just 16 years old, made his first 1,000 bottles of cava, breaking with the tradition of producing bulk wine on the estate to incorporate another step in the production chain.

That was in 1985. After four generations of contact with vineyards and the land, the moment had arrived to take a step further in the process of elaboration. Mitjans studied as an enologist and took up the challenge of managing the conversion of the business from the family vineyards.

We are the fourth generation of winemakers in these vineyards

In 1987, he registered the Loxarel brand, which highlights the value of the house’s flagship variety: Xarel·lo. Two years later, Teresa Nin joined the company to take care of the administrative and commercial management of the brand, while Mitjans focused on the direction of the winery and vineyard techniques.

Loxarel also has a small team of workers who take care of the vineyard and make it possible, year after year, for the fruit of the land to reach the bottles, preserving the characteristics and typicalities of the terroir in the bottles.
