Pruning with livestock returns after three years of drought

Vilobí del Penedès, July 2025.– After two years in which extreme drought prevented it, these first days of July 2025 the second phase of the grape picking process has culminated in the Loxarel vineyards in Vilobí del Penedès. . The first phase, maually; the second, with the flock of sheep and goats of friend and neighbor Salvador Queraltó, a well of wisdom. The flock follows the rows of vines and eats both the grass of the plant cover and the remaining vines above the grapes, which are not eaten because they are still green and too astringent. With manual grape picking and vith the flock, the ripening of the fruit is favored, by leaving it more airy and exposed to sunlight.

Green pruning with a shear complements manual pruning. It is carried out form just after flowering until the moment the fruit begins to ripen, in an ancestral practice that contributes to the biodiversity and health of the soil and the vineyard.
