Protecting the Vineyard: The Art of Green Pruning at Loxarel

In a year marked by abundant rainfall and vigorous vegetative growth, caring for the vineyard becomes. long-distance race in which prevention is the best ally. In this context, green pruning plays a vital role in safeguarding the health of both the vines and the vineyard as a whole.

In a new explanatory video, we show how this meticulous process of canopy thinning is carried out. This technique pursues three key objectives: improving air circulation around the vine to help prevent moisture-related fungal diseases such as downy mildew and botrytis; allowing sunlight to reach every part of the vine, promoting more even grape ripening; and regulating the vine’s crop load to focus its energy on producing fruit of the highest quality rather than maximising quantity.

A Two-Stage Proecess: From Human Hands to Grazing Sheep
Our green pruning strategy is divided into two clearly defined stages. Between May and June, the first stage is carried out manually by our viticulture team. The second stage, meanwhile, is once again a commitment to sustainability,, biodiversity and natural balance: we welcome QueraltĂł’s flock of sheep, which naturally and biodynamically clear the vineyard rows.
